March 17, 2001: MISCELLANY
1.Growth continues. As of today the Cryonics Institute has 326 members, 38 human patients, 7 dogs and 10 cats.
UPDATE: As of July 2003, CI has 50 human patients and approaching 500 members.
2. Several inquiries lately have touched on the question of our storage capacity for patients, and what happens if our facility fills up. First, our present building can hold at least another hundred patients. Beyond, that, we could buy another building for cash. Barring a sudden explosion of demand, we can grow as fast as necessary without incurring debt. (If there should be a sudden explosion of demand, of course, other companies and organizations will appear, and perhaps existing companies--General Electric?--might enter the field.)
3. Several inquiries have also touched upon the question of "Why would future generations want to revive me?" Obviously, anyone who asks that has not taken time to study our web site or think things through. Our hope is that you will not be revived and rehabilitated by some faceless and nameless "they" or some future bureaucracy, but by the Cryonics Institute through its management at the time, doubtless including friends and relatives of patients. That is our legal and moral obligation, our reason for existence.
