EDITOR’S CORNER

Another General Meeting has come and gone, as usual it was a chance to make new friends and renew old friendships. The year’s had the best attendance we have ever seen. We had a problem with our new digital camera, and couldn’t use any of the pictures we took. Thankfully Jack Nixon and Fred Chamberlain filled the breech with their photos.

This issue carries an essay by Linda Chamberlain. It was rather long , so we split it in two. The conclusion will be in the next issue.

We have a new advertiser in this issue, Memorable Moments on page 6. We have to admit to a little bias on this one, the owner, Susan Cameron Nicastro is the Editor’s daughter. She does very professional work, and we’re sure anyone who uses her service will be pleased.

We had to do some heavy thinking (for us anyway) to figure out what Bruce Klein of The Immortality Institute advocates. (Page 22.) He shuns religion, has no use for atheistic thinking. Is he an agnostic? He writes about "The Singularity" "The Singularity is the point in time when artificial intelligence advances beyond human intelligence. This is significant in that homo sapiens will no longer be the wisest life forms on earth." Then we read THE GOD GENE in TIME, October 25, and thought about Bob Ettinger’s new book YOUNIVERSE, (not yet published) Was this what he was getting at? By this time we had a headache and watched SOUTH PARK instead.

For anyone reading NEWS & VIEWS and questioning the references to S-A, this is a company in south Florida well known to Cryonicists. They have had their problems in the past, and have stated that for the time being, they would like to keep a low profile in any material that will go online. (John deRivaz puts parts of THE IMMORTALIST.) online They had previously said they’d have an open house in December, but their web site is shut down.
