Acceptance of evolution low in U.S. As reported in the May issue of WIRED, America ranked 39 out of 40 Countries surveyed on their populations acceptance of the evolutionary theory of life on earth. The report seemed to imply that intelligent design, the theory that life was created by a higher intelligence, was instrumental in the low (or high, depending on the readers point of view,) ranking. The top six countries accepting evolution were: Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, France, Japan and the United Kingdom. The bottom six were: Greece, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, United States and Turkey.
It listed three states where intelligent design made gains in 2006: Tennessee, Oklahoma and California, and four states where the theory had reverses: Kansas, Mississippi, Montana and Georgia.
The report listed as its sources the NATIONAL CENTER FOR SCIENCE EDUCATION, NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION and the THOMAS B. FORDHAM INSTITUTE.
