MEET MICHAEL WALSH

How did you first hear about cryonics?

It was quite a while ago (1980s), so I can't be specific. However, I think it was through either a newspaper or magazine article. And even well before that I was aware of the general concept through reading science-fiction.

How do your friends/family feel about your interest?

For personal reasons, my CI membership is something that I have chosen to keep entirely private. Consequently, because they don't know of it, no people that I know at a personal level have any views at all about it. This may change in the future.

Do you have a contract with CI?

Not as yet, but I plan on entering into one later in 2005.

Where in the "Southern Hemisphere" are you?

I presently live in Melbourne, Australia. However, I also own a flat in London, and I will soon be living there for much of each year. Eventually, as I get older and closer to a likely need for de-animation care, I hope to arrange to reside close to the CI facility in Michigan (if US residency restrictions permit such a move by a non-citizen). As I see it, being very close to the CI facility when death occurs, is likely to be the most effective way to optimize the quality of the preservation.

And anything else you'd like people to know about you--age, family, occupation, interests, thoughts about the future, etc.

I'm 53 and my interests are, primarily, theatre, films and books. I think life is to be enjoyed and celebrated, and the pursuit of those aims can take many forms. I've also been very lucky in my life so far. Most especially, I've had good health (surely there is no greater luck for any human being) and I've had a successful career in business. This success has allowed me the financial flexibility to indulge my interests, and to become involved with the CI option for the future. I'm optimistic about that future and I look forward to experiencing it. After all, at one simplistic level – and if I can be flippant for just a moment – that's what Cryonics offers: the ultimate travel destination!

It's probably true that, as a person, my default setting is to rarely disclose much about myself. So please consider the information provided here in that light.
