Seldom are two polar opposite views on humanities future carried side by side in The Immortalist. Thanks to Paul Michaels for securing permission to run The Libertarian Alliance piece. And Simon Smith, Editor of Betterhumans for giving us permission to print 'Killing Immortality."
Smith reports on Leon Kass's views on Life Extension efforts, in his online newsletter, Betterhumans Kass chairs The President's Council on Bioethics, an organization that advises the President on Science and Biotechnology issues. His views on Life Extension efforts can best be summed up in one sentence. According to Smith, Kass thinks 'death is both good and necessary." Compare that with Alan Harringtons quote from the Libertarian selection, 'The philosophy that accepts death, must be in itself considered dead."
The knowledge that Leon Kass advises the President on Life Extension matters should be chilling to any cryonicist.
We never before received two 'Letters to the Editor" in a one week period. We're glad to see someone reads this, and will make every effort to heed Ben Best's request!
CI continues to have visitors, and Andy Zawacki continues to send photos. Thanks Andy!
