Subject: Cryonics in China

To: The Editor

I read with interest the brief report of the President on his recent visit to China. He mentioned that he only had limited time there so I thought to round out the picture of cryonics in China, you may be interested to know that we (CAA - Cryonics Association of Australia) had a recent enquiry from Zheng Kuifei, President of the Beijing Yong Sheng Acad-emy expressing strong interest in developments in the cryonics movement, nanotechnology and related matters.

His e-mail address is zkf8@263.net. Below is also a copy of my reply for information:

Dear Mr. Zheng,

My good colleague Mr. Theo Tatton, President of the Cryonics Association of Australia, has passed on your kind letter of 28 July to me. As a long-standing member of CAA and having worked in Beijing for several years as a "foreign expert", I am delighted to have the opportunity to respond.

CAA has close contacts with most of the leading cryonics organizations in North America you mention including ACS and CI. Jim Yount of ACS and Professor Ettinger of the Cryonics Institute in Michigan have been close colleagues for nearly 30 years; CAA has often been in touch with such organizations on matters of mutual scientific and general interest.

We are very glad to maintain close con-tact with your organization. Interest in human suspension and re-animation seems to be gaining momentum in Russia and several European countries and to know that there is similar interest in China is highly significant.

I come to Beijing on business once or twice a year and it would be good to meet you personally on my next visit if it is convenient to you. I will let you know when my travel plans are firmer. In the meantime, we shall be glad to exchange information and express our keen sup-port for the activities of your organization.

With kind regards.

Tony Keulemans Ph D Member CAA, ACS and CI

Just a note of introduction from a new member here from the Sunny Panhandle. And you may also have yet another member in my husband at the beginning of 2005 after we finalize his paperwork... Thanks all - I'm very much enjoying this site's discussions!

Another message to the CI Support Group

Hi everybody, CI has 4 new members in Germany, near Frankfurt, which includes my wife Ailin, our little daughters Viola and Cosima and my humble self.

We are not new to cryonics, but during the past years didn't quite feel in a hurry to join a cryonics organization. There is no cryonics provider that has a local res-cue team in Germany, not to mention a facility to cool a patient to biostasis tem-perature before the long voyage to an American storage location. But at least we found CI has a basic procedure in place here that looks like a good starting point to work from. We are also, to a lesser degree, affected by the cryonics situation in China, as we have family there and spend a considerable amount of time in that country. I guess that is enough of a post for the mailing list. If you like to find out more about those new German members, lets just hook up via e-mail. It is relatively safe for you; even if we bite it only hurts the PC mouse ;-)

Regards

Guntram [guntram_graef@yahoo.com]

We asked Guntram what he meant by "the cryonics situation in China?"

"If we deanimate while in China or if one of Ailin's relatives deanimates, there won't be a cryonic suspension unless the legal and logistical situation in China allows for it. I admit, we haven't really researched the current situation in China in terms of cryonics, laws or CI's capa-bilities there. It also isn't on the top of our list, but I still mentioned it in case anyone here is knowledgeable or in-volved with the situation in China and would like to share what he/she knows."

Editor’s note: There is a copy of every Immortalist sent to the "International Exchange National Library of China," in Beijing.

Dear Guntram and CI members,

A Few weeks ago my friend Igor Artyuhov from Moscow (who tries to establish cryonics service in Russia), and myself, were approached by a woman who claimed she represented a Chinese businessman, who is interested in cryonics development in China. Igor arranged a meeting with her -- but I didn't ask him about the result. If you would like to contact him directly: (cryonics@biomed.ru) or post a message on the Cryonet (I believe he will respond, if he has something to say).

Best wishes,
