Mae A. Ettinger has resigned as a director of the Cryonics Institute, effective May 1, 1999, in order to take a well earned rest and to make room for a younger person.
She has served the Cryonics Institute and the Immortalist Society for many years in several capacities. She was one of the four founding members of CI in 1976. (The other three were Richard C. Davis, Robert C.W. Ettinger, and Walter E. Runkel.) She was Editor of The Immortalist from inception in 1970 until John Bull took over a couple of years ago.
For her countless contributions over the years, the Boards and members of the Cryonics Institute and the Immortalist Society thank her heartily, and wish her longer life, good health, and ultimately a happy thaw.
CONSTANCE ETTINGER STEPS UP
Constance M. Ettinger, J.D., has been approved by the CI Board to take over the Director's spot vacated by Mae Ettinger, effective May 1. There will be a vote at the next annual meeting in September to confirm her for a full term.
Connie (Mrs. David A. Ettinger; they met as University of Michigan law students ) has been an active member of CI for many years. In 1987 she assisted physically when Elaine Ettinger was suspended. Before CI acquired its new building, Connie and David often hosted annual meetings of the Cryonics Institute and the Immortalist Society at their home in Franklin, Michigan. When CI was much smaller and poorer, she and David donated a substantial part of CI's expenses for several years.
She has also agreed to take on the duties of Contract Officer. (This position has been vacant since John Connole had to resign for personal reasons.) Connie is an attorney (specializing in labor law, but not now actively practicing), hence well suited for this position.
When members execute the Cryonic Suspension Agreement and other documents, the Contract Officer signs on behalf of CI, after verifying that the forms are properly executed. She also deals with individual problems of applicants and members in connection with legal documents and special circumstances.
Members and prospective members often fail to appreciate the amount of labor required by every application and every sign-up. If we did not have donated labor by highly qualified volunteers, CI could not exist, let alone offer the lowest prices in the field. The Board and members of CI gratefully welcome Connie to her new posts.
