TWO PATIENTS TRANSFERRED

April 20, 1998, two whole-body patients were transferred from the care of Trans Time Inc. (TT, San Leandro, California) to that of Cryonics Institute (CI, located in Clinton Township, Michigan).

Many thanks to Art Quaife, Norm Lewis, John Rodriguez, and Trans Time for their cooperation and assistance.

The 2,500 mile move of patients in liquid nitrogen (by truck) was the longest ever.

This brings the CI human patient population to 26, all whole-body.

The patients are Mary J. DeMar, suspended by TT in 1974; and Wilfred J. DeMar, suspended by TT in 1980. They are the parents of Eric S. DeMar, who was a sitting circuit court judge in Illinois at the times of his parents' deaths.

A few years ago the judge, then retired, joined Cryonics Institute. He died last year and is now a CI patient. Before he died he established a trust to assure the continuing suspension of his parents, and indicated his wish that his parents be transferred to CI. At the direction of the trust company, this has now been done.

The move required much planning and contingency planning, and the building of a special container, since none of those we had on hand was exactly suitable. CI plant manager Andy Zawacki, along with Dave Fulcher, did the planning and work, with the helpful advice of Art Quaife, John Rodriguez, and Norm Lewis at TT.
